Yellow construction cranes and office towers are reshaping Seattle's South Lake Union, previously a low-rise, low-rent warehouse district. The elephant in the room – I mean neighborhood – is tech giant Amazon. Its global headquarters dwarf my workplace, The Seattle Times, which is next door. With the lease of the Troy Block, Amazon could end up filling 10 million square feet of office space, according to KIRO TV. Employees could reach more than 70,000. The neon sign below was removed from the roof of the old Troy Laundry building in 2013. The building was demolished and will be replaced by two high-rise towers. The green face was stuck to the side of a food truck parked outside the Amazon building at lunch hour.
