Modern gas pumps do more than deliver fuel. They talk to you. Some have the ability to recognize smartphones and display targeted ads on digital video screens. Fifty years ago? You got your tire pressure checked and windshield cleaned. Some of these relics are still standing in Washington state. The winged lights, above, stand guard at an abandoned gas station in Othello. Pumps have been removed. Weeds choke the property. Across the highway, a modern Chevron station and mini-mart serve motorists. The contrast is striking. I found the Flying A gasoline sign in Mount Vernon and the antique gas pump in Waterville.
