After a week of pounding rain in Seattle, the weather flipped on Sunday. Sunny, hazy clouds, 53 degrees. I responded by loading my Honda Civic with camera gear and heading north on Interstate 5. I stopped in Bellingham, a college town near the Canadian border. The highlight was visiting Rocket Donuts, a sci-fi themed bakery. You can't miss it. A rocket ship is parked outside. Then you step inside. It's another world. Sci-fi movie trailers play on flat-screen TVs. Movie posters adorn walls. The main attraction is a 1951 movie prop – the robot Gort from "The Day The Earth Stood Still." At the front counter I spotted a glazed donut the size of a Frisbee. I settled for a bag of chocolate cake donuts, which were fabulous. I found the Coca-Cola mural a few blocks away in the Old Town neighborhood.
